One person is dead after a serious crash in Upper Hutt.
At 12:30pm, police said that State Highway 2 (River Rd) would be closed for several hours while police examined the scene of a serious crash.
An hour later, it was confirmed that a person had died in the crash and that other patients were treated for a range of injuries.
Police are now seeking witnesses to the crash or anyone that something in the lead-up to the accident that could assist officers. They should contact police on 105 quoting P044406448.
"The road remains closed and could be for some time while police examine the scene.
"We ask that motorists avoid any unnecessary travel or to expect delays.
"Diversions are in place."
