A police officer was allegedly punched during an arrest involving a 23-year-old man in Queenstown early Saturday.

The incident happened after patrolling officers saw a disorder incident in Ballarat St just after midnight.

Police said when an officer approached one man in the group, he allegedly fled the scene and was chased on foot.

"When the man was apprehended, he allegedly punched the officer," a police spokeswoman told Newshub.

"There were no serious injuries."

The spokeswoman said the man is due to appear in the Queenstown District Court later in November.
