Police are searching for a 27-year-old Mongrel Mob member who breached his parole conditions and is on the run.

John-Boy Rakete was jailed in 2018 for beating a man unconscious at a Dunedin petrol station.

A single punch knocked the man over and smashed his head on the concrete. As he laid unconscious, Rakete poured a soft drink over his face.

The man died 14 months after the incident.

Rakete was jailed for two years for the assault and police warn the public he should not be approached.

Police say he was in South Dunedin on Sunday, but could now be in Auckland.

Anyone with information on Rakete's whereabouts can call Police on 111 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
