Two people have been taken into custody in west Auckland after a firearm was reportedly discharged on Monday.

Classes at Waitakere's Lincoln Heights School were dramatically disrupted around midday after the lockdown bell was rung following the incident in the close area.

Witnesses told Newshub about 20 armed offenders squad officers entered Keegan Drive and both students and teachers went into shelter.

Police told Newshub they were responding to an incident at a Keegan Drive address in Massey.

"Members of the Armed Offenders Squad responded to the location given the nature of the report," a spokesperson said.

"They have approached the address and have taken two people into police custody.

"At this stage there are no reports of injuries at the Massey property."

"No charges have been laid at this point. Cordons are expected to be lifted in due course."
