Firearms have been found at a property in Auckland's Northcote Point during a raid, police say, carried out after reports of armed men in the area.

On Monday afternoon, officers armed with assault rifles were photographed by Newshub blocking Onewa Road on the city's North Shore, shortly past a Northern Motorway off-ramp.

In a statement to Newshub, a police spokesperson confirmed that officers were called to the scene at about 1:40pm after a member of the public spotted the two allegedly armed men on Sulphur Beach Road.

The men then left in a vehicle, the spokesperson said. A short time later, police executed a search warrant at an Onewa Road property, where two firearms were located.

The police Eagle helicopter was also dispatched in search of a person of interest.

"A number of people are currently assisting Police with enquiries at the address," the spokesperson said.

"Any charges are unclear at this stage."

According to Stuff, residents were ordered to lock their doors and stay inside during the police operation.

A person with a gun was reportedly spotted in the area.
