Coronavirus: One new case of COVID-19 detected in New Zealand's MIQ facilities

A member of the Pakistan cricket team is the latest case of COVID-19 to be recorded at New Zealand's border, the Ministry of Health has revealed.

However for the 14th day in a row, there are no community cases.

The squad member was one of the three cases reported as under investigation on Tuesday, and has now been confirmed to have an active COVID-19 infection.

The two remaining cases are still under investigation.

The Canterbury DHB medical officer of health has not yet allowed the team to train, and will wait until satisfied that such activities are unlikely to transmit COVID-19 before giving them permission.

In addition to the one new infection, one previously reported case of COVID-19 has now also recovered, meaning the number of active cases remains at 72 - three in the community, 68 at the border and one under investigation.

The total number of confirmed and probable cases now stands at 2060.

On Tuesday, laboratories processed 7076 tests for COVID-19, bringing the total number of tests completed to date to 1,285,766.

All November quarantine cluster contacts test negative

All members of the November quarantine cluster - first detected in a New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) staffer working at the Jet Park Hotel, Auckland's quarantine facility - have now been identified and returned negative results.

However despite "extensive investigations" to determine the epidemiological connection between Case A and Case D, no significant contact between the pair has been identified.

"All six cases in the cluster were linked via the genome of their COVID-19 infection, and the NZDF worker - the index case - was linked via the genome of his infection to recent returnees in the Auckland quarantine facility," a press release reads.

"This cluster will close 28 days from the date when the last case in the cluster has recovered and been released from isolation."
