Explosives, guns seized as police hunt for Ōtara shooters

Police have seized explosives, guns and ammunition while hunting for people behind a spate of shootings in south Auckland.

A 24-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after police searched his Manurewa home.

He will appear in court on Thursday charged with discharging a firearm with reckless disregard for the safety of others, unlawful possession of prohibited weapons, ammunition and explosives.

Detective Inspector Chris Barry says police have "zero tolerance" for gun violence in the community and further arrests are expected.

Officers will maintain a high presence in Ōtara after gang violence spilled on to the streets over the weekend.

Six shootings occurred in 29 hours in Ōtara and vehicles were vandalised as tensions between gangs boiled over.

Police inquiries are ongoing and anyone with information regarding the shootings or other gang-related activity is urged to contact them on 105 and quote file number 201121/6920.
