Child dead in serious Far North crash

A child is dead after a serious single-vehicle crash in the Far North.

The accident was reported shortly after 1pm on the Kaitaia-Awaroa Rd in Ahipara.

"One of the occupants in the vehicle has sadly died," a police spokesperson says.

There were two survivors. One has been airlifted to Whangarei Hospital in a serious condition and the other is being treated for minor injuries.

Cordons are in place on Kaitaia-Awaroa Road and the serious crash unit has been advised.
