An investigation is underway after an aggravated robbery at a south Auckland dairy that left its owner in the hospital.

Emergency services were called to Halsey Rd, Manurewa at 6:30pm on Monday after two alleged offenders - one with a gun - stole cash and cigarettes before shooting the owner in the leg and fleeing the scene.

"Fortunately his injuries are not life-threatening and he was transported to the hospital in a stable condition," a police statement said.

The two alleged offenders stole cash before fleeing the scene, police said.

"Police would like to speak to anyone who was in the Halsey Rd area around the time of the robbery and may have seen something which could assist our enquiries.
