Six men have been charged with attempted murder following an assault in Wattle Downs, Auckland last month.

Radio host Harnek Singh was critically injured during the incident on December 23 and underwent surgery at Middlemore Hospital, police said at the time. He has since been discharged and is still recovering from his injuries.

On Thursday morning, police said they carried out search warrants at multiple addresses in Flat Bush and Papatoetoe, and five men aged between 24 and 39 were arrested and charged. In the afternoon, they said a sixth man, aged 26, had been arrested in relation to the assault. This person will also be charged with attempted murder.

The five men arrested in the morning are all due to appear in the Manukau District Court on Thursday afternoon. The sixth man is expected to appear in the same court on Friday.

Police added their enquiries are ongoing and they haven't ruled out the possibility of further arrests.
