Wellington was shaken by an earthquake on Friday morning, measuring in at magnitude 4.2.
The quake hit 20km south-west of Whanganui at a depth of 17 km, reports Geonet.
More than 2000 people reported feeling the shaking - some as far away as Mt Ruapehu.
Social media lit up with people saying they had felt the quake with some describing it as a "rumble" and others saying it was more of a "jolt".
