Fire crews have contained a large blaze at a Whakatāne car yard.
Emergency services were called to the yard on Valley Road just after 11am on Monday.
Footage posted on Facebook shows a large plume of smoke and locals reported an intense smell coming from the location.
People were asked to avoid the area as the fire blasted the 40 by 20-metre building.
A Fire and Emergency spokesperson told Newshub at 1:40pm the fire has been contained.
"It's all out," the spokesperson said. "Got one crew there to make sure it's completely gone."
The fire is not treated as suspicious at this stage.
