An Auckland family has been reunited with its stolen puppy after a police investigation.

Manukau Police posted a heartwarming video to its Facebook page on Tuesday showing the young family being reunited with the stolen puppy.

A 10-year-old child was assaulted when the puppy was stolen over the weekend.

The incident was caught on CCTV footage.

Counties Manukau Police posted parts of the CCTV footage to its Facebook page over the weekend asking for help from the public.

And thankfully, after a successful search warrant on Tuesday, February 16, police were able to return the pet.

In the video, the puppy is seen wagging his tail in excitement before making his way inside.

Children can be seen welcoming their beloved puppy, Axel, before shedding tears.

A member of the family told police they were thankful to have him back.

"Thank you all so much. Now we've got our baby home," she said.

Police have since charged an 18-year-old in relation to the assault and theft and is due to appear in court at a later date.

The investigation is still ongoing.
