As it happened: Jacinda Ardern, Dr Ashley Bloomfield announce alert level decision

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield are announcing whether New Zealand's alert level settings will be extended.

The three-day restrictions were imposed on Sunday in response to a fresh outbreak of COVID-19 in the community and could end at midnight Wednesday.

However earlier today it was revealed two new cases of COVID-19 have emerged - one a close contact of one of the three cases from the weekend and the other a sibling of that new case.

Cabinet met at 3pm on Wednesday to weigh up the latest data and advice on whether to extend the alert level settings.

Ardern and Dr Bloomfield are due to announce the decision at 4:30pm.
