Man charged after Bay of Plenty shooting

A man is facing court after another was shot in the leg near a small Bay of Plenty town on Friday.

Police say a man turned up at a house on State Highway 30 west of Te Teko at about 2:30pm, asking for help treating a gunshot wound to his leg.

He was airlifted to Rotorua Hospital, while the armed offenders squad looked for the shooter.

"A 25-year-old man has been charged with wounds with intent to cause grievous bodily harm," a police spokesperson told Newshub. 

He was due to appear in the Whakatane District Court on Saturday.
