Man falls from ceiling in East Tāmaki car theft arrest

A man has fallen from the ceiling of an East Tāmaki commercial building after allegedly fleeing police following a car burglary.

The ordeal on Friday night resulted in the arrest of three men who police say were trying to rob a car dealership.

Police were notified of the break-in at the dealership on Stonedon Dr at about 12am Saturday morning.

Three men then took off in a white ute they had allegedly stolen only to crash into a commercial building on Maurice Paykel Place.

Police say the men then made an effort to evade officers by entering a nearby building.

Police were able to arrest one man while the other two alleged burglars climbed into the ceiling. One of them then falling to the ground.

Police provided first aid at the scene before he was taken to Middlemore Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 25-year-old man has been charged with burglary and a 29-year-old man has been charged with burglary and wilful damage.

Both are due to appear in Manukau District Court on Saturday. The man in hospital has not yet been charged.
