Police have found a stolen Goldie painting that was taken during a Hamiton robbery.

The painting called 'Sleep 'tis a gentle thing', by New Zealand artist C.F. Goldie was taken alongside numerous other unique artworks and antiques in a residential burglary between December 27, 2020 and January 3, 2021.

Police say while the painting appears undamaged, it is yet to be thoroughly examined.

Hamilton Police located the painting over the weekend after an extensive investigation.

The owners have been informed and are very happy to hear that the painting has been recovered, police say.

The director of the International Art Centre, Richard Thomson, told RNZ in January the painting could be worth $1 million.
