Thousands report feeeling 4.3-magnitude earthquake near Hastings

More than 3000 people have reported feeling a 4.3-magnitude earthquake in Hawke's Bay.

GeoNet says the light quake struck 10km southwest of Hastings at 6:35am on Thursday, at a depth of 35km.

As of 6:45am, 3200 people had reported feeling the quake.

"A nice way to jolt me awake with 30 minute left of a 10 hour night shift," one person said on Twitter.

"I'd just woken up a few minutes prior, not the way i was hoping on starting that day," another wrote.
