A Christchurch Ministry of Social Development (MSD) office has reopened after a "threat" put it into lockdown.

MSD regional commissioner Dianne McDermott confirmed its Linwood service centre in Aldwins Rd closed on Tuesday morning.

"The safety of our clients and staff remains our top priority," she told Newshub.

McDermott declined to comment further as the matter was with police.

A police spokesperson said one person is being spoken to in relation to the matter. Indications are the incident was mental health related, police said.
