Two new cases of COVID-19 in managed isolation, one more death

A patient with COVID-19 has died at North Shore Hospital, the Ministry of Health (MoH) has confirmed.

As well as the most recent death there are two new cases of COVID-19 in managed isolation and none in the community.

The MoH reported on Saturday that the person who died had been transferred from managed isolation to hospital for treatment of a serious non-COVID related illness on February 5.

However, the patient subsequently tested positive for coronavirus.

Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield said he is deeply sympathetic to the person's family.

"On behalf of New Zealanders, I want to recognise this family’s loss."

The death has not yet been included in New Zealand's official COVID-19 death toll and more information is expected on Monday.
