COVID-19: No new cases in the community, one in managed isolation

No new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the community in the past 24 hours, Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield said on Wednesday.

One imported case has been recorded in New Zealand's managed isolation facilities. The returnee arrived from the United States on March 8 and is quaranting in Auckland.

Dr Bloomfield and COVID-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins hosted a press conference at the Beehive to announce new details on New Zealand's vaccine rollout on Wednesday afternoon.

All contacts of the Air New Zealand crew member have returned negative results so far, with the remaining results due on Thursday.

The crew member tested positive on Sunday after returning a negative test on February 28, the day they returned to Auckland on flight NZ90 from Tokyo, Japan. It's understood the individual contracted the virus due to overseas exposure.

It's believed they were infectious while Auckland was under alert level 3 restrictions last week, likely minimising their number of contacts.

No additional locations of interest have been identified in connection to the crew member. Anyone who has visited a location of interest - specified here - is advised to contact Healthline if they develop symptoms of the virus, which include a cough, fever, muscle ache, sore throat and runny nose.

There are currently 80 active cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand, with a total of 2054 confirmed cases to date.

To date, the total number of tests processed by laboratories is 1,795,324. On Tuesday, 8618 tests were processed, and the seven-day rolling average up to Tuesday is 8,341 tests processed per day.

Of the 243 cases recorded since January 1, 37 have been classified as historical infections.

Dr Bloomfield confirmed that one outstanding contact connected to the Auckland cluster - a person who had been at the Papatoetoe gym visited by Case M while they were likely infectious - was tested on Tuesday. They have returned a negative result, he said.

There are seven testing locations available in the Auckland community on Wednesday. These are in Wiri, Otara, Pakuranga Heights, Balmoral, New Lynn, Henderson and Northcote.
