No new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the community in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Health said on Wednesday.

Two imported cases have been picked up at the border in managed isolation facilities. Both arrived from India via the UAE, on March 28 and March 29 respectively, and are quarantining in Auckland. The former tested positive on the first day of their stay in managed isolation, while the second returned a positive result on arrival.

Ten people have recovered overnight, bringing the active case total to 72. To date, 2141 confirmed cases have been recorded in New Zealand.

Grand Mercure update

Enquiries into the 'day 12' case at Auckland's Grand Mercure managed isolation facility are continuing.

Last week, it was announced a large number of returnees recently released from the Grand Mercure had been asked to get retested due to suspected transmission within the facility.

The total number of returnees in this group - who required additional monitoring after leaving the hotel - reduced by one on Tuesday to 343 as the person left the country. Health authorities at the person's destination country have been notified, the ministry said.

Of these 343 returnees, 340 have been contacted. Negative tests have been returned for all but 12 people. One of these 12 people has refused a test, but will be given advice and managed appropriately by public health staff. The ministry is continuing to monitor 11 outstanding results.

Testing update

On Tuesday, 6096 tests were processed. In the last week, 35,204 tests have been processed.

The total number of tests processed by laboratories to date is 1,896,964.
