The hunt continues for the man who allegedly shot at officers in Mount Maunganui on Friday.

Western Bay of Plenty Police are appealing for the public's help to find 31-year-old Aren Curtis - and warn he should not be approached.

Curtis is wanted for arrest after failing to appear in court. He was then seen by police just before 3am on Friday driving a black Audi in Mount Maunganui.

After he failed to stop, road spikes were used and the vehicle came to a halt on Seaspray Drive.

Police say Curtis got out of the car and fled from police on foot. He then allegedly fired a shot at the officers. Nobody was injured, and Curtis escaped.

"Police have carried out a number of enquiries in the search for Curtis, but so far he has not been located," a police spokesperson says.

"Police want to hear from anyone who has any information which can help locate him.

"He should not be approached, but if you have seen him, or know where he might be, please call police on 105, quoting event number P045870211."

Information can also be given anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
