Large fire breaks out at Christchurch pizza factory

A Christchurch pizza factory has suffered major damage in an early morning blaze.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) crews were called to the Romano's Foods facility on Foundry Dr, in the suburb of Hillsborough, at 1:15am on Tuesday.

A FENZ spokesperson told Newshub seven crews remained at the scene just before 6am.

The spokesperson said smoke from the blaze is noticeable up to 2km from site and anyone close to the area is advised to keep windows and doors shut.

Everyone understood to be on the premises at the time the blaze broke out has been accounted for, FENZ said.

A fire investigator is at the scene.
