Man forbidden from driving after young child injured in crash at east Auckland school

A man has been forbidden from driving after a child was critically injured in a crash at an east Auckland primary school.

Emergency services were called to the serious crash at Pigeon Mountain Primary School in Bucklands Beach on Tuesday morning.

The young girl was rushed to Starship Hospital and remains in critical condition.

A police spokesperson confirmed on Wednesday that a 77-year-old man has been forbidden from driving after the crash.

"Any further decisions around his eligibility for driving will be for Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency to make."

Police are still looking into the circumstances of the crash and are still in the early stages of the investigation.

The presiding member of the Pigeon Mountain School Board Mark Eades shared a letter with parents and caregivers after the crash, saying they are engaging with the Ministry of Education's specialist team for support.

"We will endeavour to keep our community updated whilst respecting the wishes and privacy of the family involved."
