A man has suffered serious injuries following an assault in Hastings on Sunday morning.
Emergency services were called to the "serious assault" near a takeaway bar on Heretaunga St West just after 1am.
Police say the man was found at the scene suffering serious injuries and was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.
Police are investigating the incident and say they are looking to understand what happened in the lead-up to the assault and to identify the person or people responsible.
