One person is dead and another in a critical condition following two separate crashes in Waikato in the early hours of Sunday.
The fatal crash happened on Te Rapa Rd, Horotiu, near the dairy factory at around 5:30am. Police said the driver and sole occupant of the car died at the scene.
A separate crash that left another sole occupant in critical condition happened on Tower Rd in Matamata at about 4:45am. The driver was airlifted to Waikato Hospital.
Both roads remain closed and motorists are asked to take alternate routes.
The serious crash unit will be investigating both crashes, police said.
