Skydiver who died in Tauranga jump named

The skydiver who died during a jump in Tauranga on Saturday is being described as an experienced and valued member of the skydiving family.

The police named Theo Williams tonight, and say they are continuing to make enquiries into his death on behalf of the Coroner.

Worksafe and the Civil Aviation Authority have been notified.

Earlier, the company, Skydive Tauranga, released a statement saying the man who died was an experienced and valued member of the skydiving family.

It said he was completing a solo jump after a normal free fall.

He had a safe parachute opening but suffered injuries as he landed.

In a statement, Skydive Tauranga says their thoughts and prayers are with the man's family and friends.

A private karakia has been held to honour his memory.
