Amanda Gillies rages at Auckland roadworks

Auckland's widescale roadworks projects have drawn the ire of many in the city, including The AM Show newsreader Amanda Gillies who unleashed on-air at two key routes into the city being blocked.

She and The AM Show co-hosts Duncan Garner and Mark Richardson were discussing Auckland's roadworks woes on Wednesday after Gillies revealed her frustration at both Tāmaki Dr and part of the Greenlane roundabout being blocked off - both popular routes into the city from the east.

"I'm like an angry woman - an angry menopausal woman. You don't want to mess with me right now," Gillies said.

"For the past two weeks, they had to close off the road [Tāmaki Dr] to us coming to work at 4am - went to go there this morning. Oh, no - still closed off."

Gillies said she took the signposted detour route - only to run into more trouble.

"[I] get up to the detour onto the motorway," she said. "What do you know? Off-ramp, closed off by road works.

"I was like 'are you kidding me?' The detour was detoured and closed off."

The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA), on its website, says the State Highway 1 Greenlane on-ramp northbound was expected to be closed until at least 5am Thursday.

"This motorway ramp closure is dependent on various factors, including weather, and might be postponed or cancelled at late notice."

Garner revealed he also got caught up in the roadworks.

"I did this last night - I was in your neck of the woods last night... you're so right," he said.

"I'm over it," Gillies added.

The NZTA advises motorists to plan and allow extra time for the detour.
