Two people have been arrested after nearly $450,000 worth of cash and methamphetamine was located near a crashed vehicle near Mount Bruce.

Police say a speeding vehicle, travelling north towards Eketahuna, failed to stop for police on State Highway 2 on Tuesday afternoon.

Minutes later, the vehicle was found crashed in a shallow culvert. Cash and methamphetamine, worth up to $450,000, was found nearby.

A 21-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman have been charged with possession and supply of methamphetamine.

The man has also been charged with a range of driving offences.

They both appeared in the Masterton District Court on Wednesday and are remanded in custody to reappear on Friday April 23.

Detective Senior Sergeant Barry Bysouth says enquiries are ongoing to determine both the origin and intended destination of the drugs.

"Our officer, a member of the road policing team, did an exceptional job yesterday preventing further harm to our communities with this significant seizure."
