Charter boat owners 'shocked' by woman's death on Auckland's Waitematā Harbour

The owners of a luxury boat company are "shocked" after a woman died on a vessel they rented out.

Zefiro Charters Ltd's Lawrence Knight and Ben Mostert released a statement about the incident on Friday in which they expressed their sympathies to those close to the woman.

"We are shocked and devastated with the events that unfolded yesterday afternoon," the pair said.

"Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the deceased.

"We are currently working with police and Maritime New Zealand, who have our full cooperation, and will be conducting our own independent investigation to determine what happened."

The woman died after succumbing to injuries sustained in Auckland's Waitematā Harbour.

RNZ reports she was one of about 30 passengers onboard the chartered vessel, which had departed from the Viaduct Harbour earlier that afternoon.

Coastguard NZ told the Otago Daily Times she and another passenger had gone overboard but were quickly retrieved from the water.
