New Zealand has now administered more than 135,000 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, up 34,000 in the last week.

At his Wednesday press conference, COVID-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins said 135,585 doses of the vaccine had been delivered, with 7695 of those being in the last 24 hours.

Over the last week, Hipkins says 34,378 doses have been administered.

Of the total number administered, 105,391 were first doses and 30,194 were second doses, up from 71,013 and 19,273 last week respectively.

The ministry says 43 percent of vaccines given so far have been administered in Auckland and 19 percent of people jabbed in the City of Sails are Māori or Pasifika.

Overall, 16,009 of those who have received one dose live in the Waitemata area, with 15,877 living in the Counties Manukau DHB and 15,561 living in the Auckland DHB. Most vaccinations, however, are administered in Counties Manukau.

The latest data comes as a new "large-scale" vaccination centre launches in the Auckland suburb of Mt Wellington. Hipkins said it will be used initially for St John Ambulance and police staff and is the second centre able to administer more than 1000 doses per day at full capacity.

New Zealand's vaccination programme is currently targeting border and MIQ workers as well as those in high-risk population groups.

Hipkins says by the end of June, more than 1 million additional doses will be delivered to priority groups. It's expected vaccinators will be "well into" the third group of Kiwis to be vaccinated  - those who are "at risk of getting very sick from COVID-19" - by the end of June. These Kiwis will start receiving jabs at the end of May.

The fourth group, the general public, is expected to start getting vaccinated by July.
