Coronavirus: Two new COVID-19 cases at border, none in community as MIQ worker testing concludes

There are two new cases of COVID-19 in New Zealand but none in the community, as testing of a managed isolation and quarantine (MIQ) worker's contacts concludes.

Both the new coronavirus cases were detected at the border, Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield revealed on Wednesday.

One flew in from Pakistan on April 5, and another arrived from India on April 9. Both transitted through the United Arab Emirates and have now been transferred to the Jet Park Hotel, Auckland's quarantine facility.

The lack of new community cases will come as a relief to health officials, after three Auckland MIQ workers based at the Grand Millennium tested positive for the virus last week.

"All close and casual-plus contacts of Case B have now returned negative results, with the exception of his colleague Case C, whose positive COVID-19 result was reported on Sunday night," a Ministry of Health spokesperson said.

"Scoping interviews with Case C have now been completed and there are no locations of interest for this case. Locations of interest for Case B, including several bus trips this case took in Auckland, are on the Ministry of Health's website."

Anyone who visited any of the locations listed at the same times have been advised to monitor for COVID-19 symptoms.

Three more people recovered from the virus on Wednesday, and the total number of active cases in New Zealand now stands at 101. The total number of confirmed cases is 2233.

Another 5591 coronavirus tests were carried out on Tuesday.
