Have your say: Do you think daylight saving should end?

With many Kiwis' minds on chocolate this long Easter weekend, it's easy to forget that daylight saving ends on Sunday.

Early in the morning, at 3am, clocks will jump back an hour to 2am. It's an extra hour of sleep, bringing with it brighter mornings and darker evenings.

However, some argue it's time New Zealand brought the practice to an end and keep our clocks permanently at daylight saving time.

The group Take Back the Clocks currently has a petition on the Parliament website

"Changing clocks is disruptive, unnatural, unnecessary, and causes stress for almost all New Zealanders – especially parents of young children, dairy cows, and anyone working across timezones," the petition says.

"We suggest that permanent Daylight Saving would protect sleep habits, benefit retailers, and reduce energy use. If businesses or schools need to seasonally adjust operating hours, they could do so voluntarily. We believe most New Zealanders would support a switch to permanent Daylight Saving."
