Magnitude 4.3 earthquake strikes north of White Island

A magnitude 4.3 earthquake has struck north of White Island.

The quake hit at 7:33am on Thursday, 60km north-west of Te Kaha at a depth of 120km. 

There have been more than 200 reports from people who felt the quake on GeoNet, with 172 people describing it as "weak". Three people called it "moderate" and 38 labelled it "light. 

Most of those reporting the quake are located in Whakatane and in the Hawke's Bay.
