A man has died after a water incident at Ōhope Beach near Whakatane.
Emergency services were called to the area at about 1:25pm on Thursday.
Police say the man, who is in his 40s, was given medical attention after being pulled from the water, however, he died at the scene.
The death will be referred to the Coroner.
