Motorcyclist crashes head-first into car on busy Auckland road after being cut-off - then bike is stolen

An Auckland woman says her partner is in hospital and unable to work for some time after his motorbike collided with a vehicle last week - the bike in question later being stolen from the scene.

The man was riding along the busy Onewa Rd on Auckland's North Shore at about 8:30am last Thursday when a car turned in front of him, cutting him off and causing him to crash head-first into the vehicle.

"This accident reminds us that one moment of impatience or lack of concentration in rush hour can change lives," the man's partner said on Facebook, accompanied by CCTV footage of the crash from Onewa Rd's BP service station.

Writing in the Birkenhead and Northcote Community group on Thursday afternoon, the woman said her partner will be "unable to work for the foreseeable future" as a result of the collision.

To add insult to injury, the woman said when the insurance company went to collect the bike following the crash, it was no longer there.

"I am personally gutted as there were [a] limited amount of CBR 600rr made and I would have kept it forever."

She asked anyone with information on the bike, number plate 14WLW, to message her on Facebook.

The woman thanked the BP Onewa Rd staff and members of the public who stopped to assist her partner.

"You all jumped to his assistance and made a real difference," she said. "We are both so grateful to you."
