A motorcyclist has died following a serious collision with a vehicle in the small Northland town of Ruakākā.
A police spokesperson confirmed the motorcyclist's death in a statement on Thursday evening, about three hours after the crash was initially reported.
"Police can confirm a motorcyclist has died following the earlier crash at the intersection of Marsden Point Road and SH1, Ruakaka," the spokesperson said shortly before 9:30pm.
The motorcycle and vehicle collided at the intersection of Marsden Point Road and State Highway 1 in Ruakākā, roughly 30 kilometres south of Whangārei.
The road is closed and diversions remain in place.
The Serious Crash Unit has been notified.
