The man who died after being hit by a bus in Wellington on Saturday has been named by police as 75-year-old Andrew Lockwood Waikare.

Waikare, also known as Anaru "Doc" Manuel, died after the crash on Taranaki St in the CBD just before 10pm.

An investigation into the crash is continuing, police said.

"Police extend their sympathies to his family and friends," said a statement released on Tuesday.
