Three men arrested for alleged kidnapping, assault and burglary at Wellington University hall which injured two

Three men have been arrested for alleged kidnapping, burglary and assault at Victoria University's halls of residence in Wellington.

Two people were injured in the incident, which happened at Te Puni hostel in the suburb of Kelburn at 3:30pm on Tuesday.

A police spokesperson told Newshub a 24-year-old is charged with burglary, kidnapping, threatening to kill, aggravated robbery, intent to injure and common assault. A 19-year-old has also been charged with kidnapping, threatening to kill, aggravated robbery, intent to injure, burglary, common assault and supply of cannabis.

The third person, a 38-year-old man, was charged with kidnapping, threatening to kill, aggravated robbery, intent to injure, burglary and common assault, the spokesperson said.

All three men appeared in Wellington District Court on Wednesday morning.

A spokesperson for Victoria University of Wellington told Newshub security around Te Puni hall has been increased, and will remain so "for the foreseeable future".

"Our immediate response has been to ensure that those students immediately affected were safe and supported by appropriate services."

As the matter is now before the courts, the University will not offer any further comment.
