A man has been arrested and charged over an alleged assault in the Auckland suburb of Westmere.

It's understood a party-goer was taken to hospital after he was assaulted at a 40th birthday party on Rawene Ave on April 16.

Police said on Wednesday a 53-year-old man has been arrested and charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm over the incident, which took place at a multi-million dollar home that has won a major architectural award.

The 53-year-old will appear in the Auckland District Court on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers say they are unable to comment further on the matter as it is now before the court.
