A multi-vehicle crash has blocked two southbound lanes on Wellington's SH1 urban motorway, with the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) warning of "significant delays" during rush-hour traffic.
Multiple vehicles collided at around 5:15pm on Thursday, roughly 500m north of the southbound Aotea Quay off-ramp.
"Emergency services are attending a multi-car crash that has brought the motorway down to one lane," a police spokesperson said.
"Motorists are asked to drive with care and expect potential delays."
One person sustained serious injuries in the collision, police said.
In a tweet, NZTA warned motorists to "pass the scene with care".
"Expect significant delays throughout the area."
In an update shortly before 7pm, police confirmed the lanes have reopened.
