A police car was wrecked in a car crash in lower Hutt which blocked a lane of State Highway 2 on Wednesday afternoon.
A police spokesperson confirmed a patrol vehicle was involved in a crash with another car at the SH2 and Melling Link intersection at around 3:40pm.
"The vehicle was under lights and siren when the collision occurred. There are reports of people being treated for minor injuries."
A tow was requested for both vehicles, they said.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency said in a post to Twitter in the afternoon that the crash had blocked a lane at the intersection with Block Road.
"Emergency services are on-site and contractors are en route. The northbound turning lane is also BLOCKED. Please take extra care while passing and expect DELAYS."
