Police conclude bomb threat to St Peter's School in Cambridge had 'no credibility'

Police have concluded the bomb threat made to a prestigious Waikato private school last week had no credibility.

Hundreds of people were evacuated from St Peter's School in Cambridge on Thursday night, due to the threat.

In a statement on Tuesday, Waikato West Area Cmmr Insp Will Loughrin said police had completed its investigation into the circumstances of the threat. They found it had no credibility.

"We are aware this was a distressing situation for the school, its students and parents," he said.

"We want to reassure the community, we take matters of this nature extremely seriously and any new information that comes to our attention regarding this incident will be assessed accordingly.

"Police will be providing ongoing support where necessary to the school and its community."

The bomb threat came amid heightened media interest in the school following the disappearance of the school's principal and deputy principal - married couple Dale Burden and Yevette Williams - who have not been on campus since at least the last school holidays.

It was revealed on Thursday WorkSafe has been making inquiries into concerns around staff wellbeing.
