Police Eagle helicopter imagery shows the moment two alleged Auckland home invaders are arrested as officers surround the property.

According to Counties Manukau police, residents at a Point View Dr, Howick address called 111 at about 11pm on Sunday reporting that their power had been turned off and that they had heard breaking glass.

As the occupants safely exited the house, the police Eagle helicopter flew to the area and directed officers on the ground, including a dog unit.

Night-vision pictures taken from the helicopter and shared by police show officers surrounding the property.

The dog unit and team of three officers cleared the house and found two men hiding in the kitchen area. The moment of their arrest was also caught on the helicopter's night-vision camera.

"A 32-year-old man has been charged with burglary and a 17-year-old will be referred to Youth Aid over the incident," police said on Friday.

"We would like to acknowledge the homeowners' quick thinking and contacting Police on 111."

People on Facebook agreed it would have been a "frightening" experience for the residents.

"Wow how frightening, great work to the police for responding so quickly and catching them. Lets how our justice system works just as well (sic)," said one.

"Wow how scary for the family! Now let's hope these offenders get more than just a slap on the wrist!!" said another.

"Geez that's freaky glad the occupants got out safely and rang for help," a third added.
