Six arrested, $2 million in assets seized in investigation targeting Mongrel Mob leaders

Six people have been arrested and $2 million in assets seized during an ongoing operation in Hawke's Bay targeting senior members of the Mongrel Mob.

Several search warrants have been executed by police in Hawke's Bay in the past few days as part of Operation Dusk, which has been ongoing for a year and a half.

Police said five properties, 14 guns and 15 cars have been restrained or seized.

Two businesses are also under investigation for organised crime links.

Police said a raft of charges have been laid including for alleged serious drugs and firearms offences.

The search warrants executed in the past few days also targeted other gangs including Black Power and Mongols MC, police said.

"Fifteen motor vehicles including a 2020 Range Rover and high-end classic cars, two trucks, four Harley Davidson motorbikes, a dirt bike, jewellery, a boat, two jet skis, trailers and a digger have been restrained."

In a joint statement, Det Insp Darryl Sweeney, of the National Organised Crime Group and Det Insp Rob Jones, of the Eastern District, said the alleged offenders will soon appear in court.

"The Hawke's Bay police-community teams continue to liaise with communities affected by gang activity, providing reassurance and support.

"This should serve as a clear message that the National Organised Crime Group will continue to work across New Zealand to hold gang members to account."
