Two arrested after loaded military-style assault rifle seized in south Auckland

Two men have been arrested after a loaded military-style assault rifle was seized in south Auckland on Sunday.

Counties Manukau Police were called to a report of disorder at the Manukau Sports Bowl in Clover Park shortly after 9:00am today. They then received information that a firearm was involved.

Police found a vehicle that had left the scene a short distance away and during a search a loaded military-style assault rifle and air rifle were found. The firearm had not been fired.

A 22-year-old man and a 20-year-old man have been arrested and will appear in the Manukau District Court on Monday charged with unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm and magazine.

The 20-year-old man is also charged with male assaults female over the initial disorder incident.
