Two charged with murder after fatal Ōtāhuhu shooting

Two men have been arrested and charged with murder after a man was shot dead in Ōtāhuhu at the weekend.

Alec Moala of Papatoetoe, 31, died early on Sunday morning. Loud bangs were heard on Beatty St at about 2am, followed by "screaming that went on for about a minute", one resident told Newshub.

Moala was dead by the time emergency services arrived.

Two men - aged 26 and 28 - have been arrested, police said, and will appear in Manukau District Court on Friday morning jointly charged with Moala's murder.

"We hope the arrests provide some form of comfort to Mr Moala's family," said acting Det Insp Warrick Adkin, adding that detectives had been "working tirelessly" to track down the alleged killers.

He said members of the public had provided "valuable information" which led to the arrests.
