Alleged Dunedin supermarket stabber keeps name suppression

A 42-year-old man charged over a stabbing at a Dunedin supermarket will continue to keep his name suppressed.

The man is facing four counts of attempted murder after allegedly stabbing four people - including two supermarket employees - at the Cumberland St Countdown last month.

He made a brief appearance in court on Tuesday, his second appearance, and entered no plea. He'll next appear in the Dunedin High Court on June 22.

Four people were hospitalised following the attack and are now recovering. Countdown earlier said staff had been inundated with support.

"We've had an outpouring of aroha and support from across Aotearoa, with customers bringing in flowers, cakes and chocolates to their local stores including Dunedin central," a Countdown spokesperson said.

"These gestures have been so welcomed and appreciated after an incredibly tough couple of weeks."

The victims of the attack have also thanked the public for their support.
