One person has been shot and another has suffered facial injuries in a firearms incident in Dargaville, Northland.

Police say they received a report of a person being shot on Carrington Rd at around 2:20pm.

A short time later a person arrived at Dargaville Hospital with a "facial wound". They were followed by a second person with a gunshot injury.

As a result, armed police are currently in the area as a precaution. Police say they are responding to the incident and are making enquiries to identify the offenders involved.

Police are also seeking sightings of a vehicle spotted leaving the Carrington Road area around the time of the incident.

"Northland Police are seeking sightings of a black or charcoal-coloured Nissan vehicle, similar to a Nissan Wingroad," a spokesperson says.

"The vehicle's registration plates are, or are similar to, CAK346. Anyone who sees this vehicle is asked to phone 111 immediately."

Police say the pair's injuries aren't believed to be life-threatening.
